The Benefits Of Keeping Houseplants In Your Home And Office

Making the most of the space around you can be more beneficial than you’d think. An empty office space or corner of your home can quickly be transformed into a powerful and inspirational space to drive productivity and create a therapeutic experience. But what if we told you that this could be achieved by simply adding plants to those empty spaces?

It’s true when we say plants make people happy, but what exactly are the benefits of keeping plants in your home or office space? We’ve outlined some of the most amazing benefits below, so the next time you find yourself lacking in productivity or in need of a mood booster, you know that green is the way to go!

Houseplants Reduce Stress, Fatigue and Sickness.

Indoor plants don’t just look good, they make us feel good mentally and physically too. Many common house plants can incredibly lower the infectivity of airborne viruses by increasing humidity levels indoors, thus reducing sickness. All plants with the exception of succulents and cacti have the ability to increase humidity levels through a process called transportation.

Studies have shown that a bacteria called Mycobacterium vaccae which is found in most indoor plant soils improves breathing, reduces allergies, stress, fatigue and asthma, whilst also increasing your serotonin levels. So next time you have allergies, why not plant some daffodil’s before seeing the doctor!

Houseplants Purify Indoor Air.

Before you buy that expensive air purifier, try cleaning your air a greener way. Did you know what plants can actually convert the carbon dioxide we exhale into fresh oxygen through photosynthesis?

Studies have also shown that through a process called phytoremediation, house plants can remove cancer-causing pollutants from the air such as formaldehyde and benzene by absorbing these gases through their leaves and roots.

Houseplants Boost Your Mood, Productivity and Improve Your Mental Health.

Gardening is proven to be so good for the brain that it can even lower the risk of dementia. Put simply, tending to plants forces our attention away from the stresses of everyday life and creates an overall calming effect on the mind - similar to meditation, boosting your mood and improving your mental health. It goes without saying that humans are happier when around aesthetically-pleasing living things, so simply just being in the presence of nature can have tremendous mental health benefits.

Plants are also one of the best ways to take a break from technology and reduce stress levels in the office. Plenty of studies have shown that office workers who keep plants around their desk have been found to be happier and more productive throughout the day. But don’t worry, we’re not suggesting that you need to buy a whole jungle’s worth of plants to produce a noticeable effect – we recommend keeping it smart and sophisticated, just like your work ethic! A few air plants should do the trick.

Houseplants Offer Privacy and Reduce Noise Level.

Not only are indoor plants able to provide us with more privacy whether at home or in the office, but they also have the ability to reduce noise level too! Plants and their leaves absorb sound, as well as break up background noise, providing the surrounding environment with a more peaceful and serene atmosphere.

Placing taller plants in containers by windows or in strategic areas where you want to diffuse the noise level is an excellent tip to give yourself more privacy whilst reducing the noise level at the same time.

So, there you have it. Who knew plants could offer us so many incredible benefits? Check out our range of plants and planters to give your home or office some much needed greenery.
